Directions to Meeting Place / Trail
Entering Cathcart from Queenstown on the N6, turn left at the 4-way stop street into Main Rd (right if coming from East London). At the Ferndale sign board (1st stop street / First National Bank), turn left. Travel 2km out of town. Turn right at the Henderson/Bacela sign. Travel for 23km down into Henderson valley. Turn right at the Ferndale Campsite and 4x4 sign (at the hangar & windsock) and follow the road for 1km to the campsite on Thomas River at the base of the krans (cliff).
4x4 Experience Required
Good driving experience required.
4x4 Equipment Required
Ensure that your vehicle has correctly rated recovery points!
Other Requirements
A sense of humour! A sense of adventure! Snacks and drink for the journey. (NO ALCOHOL DURING TRAIL)
Vehicle Types
4x4 with low range. Diff-lock is highly recommended as well as good ground clearance. Most standard vehicles will stuggle unless you are a highly experienced driver. Standard vehicle will also be more vulnerable to possible damage. NO 4x2's or low slung SUV.
Trail Length
6-8 hours. It will be a long and hard day's 4x4 driving!
Information
We have driven this trail before and we cannot wait to do it again. It's by far the best trail we will be doing in 2009, because this is the highest rated trail in the Eastern Cape and one of the best in South Africa. There is a scenic trail and 2 extreme trails on the farm. We will only be doing the extreme trails. Come and experience the best the Eastern Cape has to offer the 4x4 enthusiast, but this is definately not for the faint hearted.
