GPS Challenge 2010
It was time again for the annual GPS Challenge that we host together with 4x4 Megaworld PE.
All the preparation was made weeks in advance and we were all excited to have the contestants test their GPS skills and explore a part of the Eastern Cape they might not have seen before.
There was excitement in the air as the teams left on Saturday morning from 4x4 Megaworld in Heugh Road, Walmer.
Their route would take them through Redhouse, Addo, Sunlands, Zuurberg Pass, Alicedale and finally end off just outside Grahamstown at Brooklands Game Reserve.
The route, and the end point was not revealed to anyone beforehand. Along the route the contestants needed to make use of their GPS units to collect information at certains points of the route.
This would lead them to some interesting places, including abandoned buildings, old railway bridges just to mention a few.
Once everyone arrived at the camp site, the adrenaline was still pumping after a day of action. Everyone went ahead to set up camp while we prepared the food for the evening.
After discussing the questionnaire that they had to fill in and a lovely supper, they got ready for their night exercise.
This involved a night drive through the game park, again collecting information at certain points using their GPS units. The feedback we got from this event showed that everyone enjoyed it.
The next morning we had 4 more exercises left, before we could determine the winners.
In first place we had the Du Preez, 2nd place we had the Scarrs. Third place was Antony and his wife and then in 4th place we had Charl and Eugene from Bridgestone.
