Offcamber - 5 July 2009

On the morning of 4 July 2009, Bernadette, Chris and Barto joined the Algoa Toyota 4x4 Club to join them on their trip through Offcamber Adventures 4x4 Trail. We decided that because we would need to be there for the EC Offroad event the following day, we might as well do the trail twice. Once the trip report is up from the club, I'll post it here.

The next morning we were met by the people that would join us for the EC Offroad event. Dirk from the 4x4community (http://www.4x4community.co.za/) was also there.

We started off with section one, with a drive through a little forest where we saw a couple of buck standing around as well as a couple of Knysna Loeries flying around. Everyone made the Block and Tackle obstacle except for one person that took the bypass.

From there we went on to section four which is the longer of the four sections at Offcamber, and also the most scenic. Every now and then we had to guide the vehicles through the obstacles, but everyone made it without any incident.

The first optional obstacle came up. This is a dip into the dry rocky river bed, drive along the river bed, and then out on the other side. Sounds easy enough? Except that the drop into the river bed is steep and muddy. You have to take it just right otherwise you might loose a bumper or end up damaging the sides of the vehicle. Two vehicles went through, and met up with the rest of the people after they took the bypass route. No damage to the vehicles, except for a slight bump here and there on the big boulders that you drive over.

We carried on to the river rest stop, and had some lunch there. This also gave the kids a chance to run around and be kids. After this we went through the river crossing, drove along the beautiful river path, and crossed the river again on the way back.

The last optional obstacle was the Launch Pad. A obstacle where you need a bit of momentum to get out. Everyone that attempted it made it and met up with the people taking the bypass.

From there we headed back to base camp where we said our good byes and headed off home after an awesome day of being outdoors.
