Slagboom 4x4 May 2009

On the morning of 3rd of May 2009, the EC Offroad Adventures team drove out the meet the other people joining us that were camping there. Due to other work issues we could not camp that weekend. We were happy to see though that the people that were camping enjoyed themselves.

We waited a while before heading off onto the trail. We did a short section while waiting for the farmer to come and take us onto the trail. This was just a little warm up section so that people will have their wits about them for the rest of the day.

When the farmer arrived, we all signed the indemnities, and headed off into the trail. The first steep uphill didn't provide any problems for anyone, but we were a bit worried about the going down part. The road was badly washed away and quite narrow. Careful driving assured that no one damaged anything while going down.

Slagboom is a beautiful trail in the Addo area. You are in awe of the beautiful scenery around you while on the trail.

There were a few obstacles that people had no problems getting through.

We got to the lookout point around lunch time. Everyone took the time to eat and stretch their legs. From this part of the trail you have views right up to the ocean, and on this day we could even see the cargo ships on there.

While heading back to the base camp, we drove down the infamous Spioen Kop. Going down was not that difficult, but the fun came in while trying to drive back up. It is quite loose with a lot of cross axles. Most of the people tried, with only Barto and Gordon making it up.

From here the farmer took us through another section back to the base camp.

We quickly had a braai going there so that we can enjoy some meat and socialise a bit. After this we unfortunately had to head back home while some of the people stayed over for another night of camping.
